Two years ago, I had the privilege of judging the Thomasville (Georgia) Rose Queen Pageant. If you’re not from around here, you might not know the Thomasville Rose Show & Festival is held at the end of April and it’s worth putting on the calendar. It can be a long day if you’re playing an official role, but the organizers really took care of us.
Between the events, I had my first experience with cheese from Sweet Grass Dairy. I figured this was some small dairy operation until a few weeks later a package came in the mail. It was a thank you from the Rose Show, a decorative wooden box with carefully wrapped cheeses from their cheeseshop in downtown Thomasville.
They’ve got craft beer, a great wine selection, cheese boards, sandwiches and more. Owners Jeremy and Jessica Little say the goal of products they offer is “to showcase the finest Southern producers.” The dairy itself is a family operation that goes back to the 1970s, and its cheeses are featured at top Atlanta restaurants, but the cheeseshop (and now restaurant) are a fairly recent addition. It’s always a jamming little place, and I’ve added it to my list of another reason to love this southern land. ~ Luke Murphy
